About Racing to Save Lives

RacingtoSaveLives.org is an interactive fundraising Web site that allows racing enthusiasts, St. Jude supporters, and all their friends and family to have some competitive fun while helping St. Jude in the fight against childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

St. Jude has enlisted several professional drivers to participate in the Race to Save Lives. These generous individuals have volunteered so much of their time to help make a difference in the lives of St. Jude children. They make special visits to the hospital and bring smiles to the faces of countless St. Jude children. Now they want to rally their fans to donate to St. Jude and join them in crossing the Racing to Save Lives finish line.

More than 50 years after saying this prayer, Danny Thomas's dream continues to inspire people to give. Since its opening in 1962, St. Jude has become a symbol of hope and a second chance at life for the critically ill children of the world. The mission of St. Jude has always been to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. And remarkably, we have been able to increase childhood cancer survival rates from less than 20 percent to more than 70 percent overall.

St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and more than 70 countries, all of whom are treated without regard to race, religion, creed, or ability to pay. And because of the generous contributions of our supporters, St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance and families without insurance are never asked to pay.

Through the compassion and generosity of our supporters, we are able to cover a significant portion of the cost of operations, which is more than $1 million a day, through public contributions alone. In fact, 85 cents of every dollar we receive goes directly to research and treatment at St. Jude.
